Teach your students with PodCards

In our second session of “New Media in FLE” we worked on creating a stand-in class in English. In a short time you can find out, how students can benefit from a free lesson.

If the students have internet access, they can learn English and working with media which they surely will enjoy on http://www.eslpodcards.com/

podcards

Here you can find the PodCard Archive of worksheets, mp3s, PDFs and crosswords. Chose one of the countries you would like your students to learn about. A variety of cities and prominent people are waiting to be discovered…

For instance, you can give your students the following tasks for a 45 minutes lesson.

1. Go on the Country Index of PodCards: http://www.eslpodcards.com/country-index.php

2. Chose the United States ‘flag and you will see the first PodCard “Barack Obama”

Barack Obama

3. Click on the PDF file and do activity 1 while listening to the mp3.

4. Do the same with activity 2.

5. Compare your answers with the ones of your partner.

4. Go on with activity 3. Listen to the mp3 again and fill in the gaps.

5. When you are finished your partner should check your answers with the help of the transcript.

6. Look up vocabulary you do not know and explain the words in English.

7. The crossword is for the students who finish earlier. Answer it with the transcript.

Besides, there are many other PodCards which give teachers the opportunity to create varied and interesting lessons. Students will be thankful for not just sitting, reading and writing but to work with audiovisual material. Apart from the commendable formal conception of podcards, the contents are also reliable.

Summing up, http://www.eslpodcards.com/ is worth seeing and using.

  1. Hey, I just checked out your post and I wanted to say that it is a really good piece. I like the pictures and direct links!
I have just added a post about PodCards myself and I noticed something odd: the links just aren’t working any more… it always says “Forbidden You don’t have permission to access / on this server.”…
did we have to type in something special or does it only work with university servers??? You wouldn’t happen to know, would you?

    • Thanks for your comment! I also noticed that weeks ago, and I think the link does not exist anymore :( It´s a pity, I wanted to use PodCards for my private lessons. Do you know any similar website?
